Description

Zutphen, The Netherlands, November 2012

November really isn't the best time to go out for IR shots... it has been misty whole day. However, just having been told that this weather is not fit for IR does not change the fact that I am stubborn and have to find out myself.

I just wanted to participate in the Magic Trees contest [link]
This photo does not even look like infrared though.... ;(

And cows are scary.

[UPDATE]
Note to self: Stop whining.
I made some adjustments and decided to just submit this to the Magic Trees contest anyways :P

I think this is an important photograph, Rowan, with respect to IR work. There is simply nothing like a grey cloudy day to cut down IR radiation and reflection. Clouds with their water vapour and water droplets are going to mop up almost all of the IR radiation coming from the Sun. Thus, we do not see the typical bright whites for foliage and so on. Nevertheless, that does not mean that IR shots need be exactly the same as purely visible shots in the same conditions. Tonality is going to be different and photographers ought to be able to exploit this. Exactly how to exploit the differences is going to be up to the photographer and his/her imagination/technique. One idea that has come to me is to use another infrared source to illuminate some or all of the scene - say a powerful torch on or off scene directed at different aspects of the scene. Or, a bonfire (a powerful IR source) as part of the scene. The idea would be to get selected areas illuminated with IR light.

Anyway, I am all for experimentation and I'm glad you've got this in the contest.

Cheers
